Dr. Kevin D. Belfield

Kevin D. Belfield received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Syracuse University in 1988 under the tutelage of Prof. John E. Baldwin, and performed postdoctoral research with Prof. Israel Cabasso at SUNY College of Environmental and Forestry and with Prof. William von E. Doering at Harvard University’s Department of Chemistry. After being a faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy from 1992-98, he joined the University of Central Florida. He is currently Professor of Chemistry and Optics and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Central Florida with joint appointments in the CREOL, College of Optics and Photonics, the Department of Mechanical Materials, and Aerospace Engineering, and the Biomolecular Science Center. His research is in the area of organic photonic materials, bioimaging, and functional polymers. [Full CV] |

Dr. Sheng Yao

Sheng Yao received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from East China University of Science and Technology (Shanghai, China). He then did postdoctoral research in nonlinear optical materials area at University of Ulm and University of Kaiserslautern (Germany). He is now a senior scientist in Dr. Kevin D. Belfield’ group. His recent interests including design and synthesis of two-photon absorbing materials for applications, such as bioimaging, 3D data storage, photodynamic therapy, etc. |

Mykhailo V. Bondar received the B.S. in Physics from Kiev State University, Kiev, Ukraine in 1980 and the Ph. D. in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Physics, Kiev, Ukraine. He has worked at the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, since 1985, now at the rank of Senior Research Scientist. He is also a Visiting Research Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida. His areas of interest and expertise are laser photophysics, luminescence spectrsoscopy, photochemistry and nonlinear optics of organic dyes, and multi-photon absorption processes in organic materials. |

Alma R. Morales received her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2004 and Master Degree in 2000 from Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, México. During 2000- 2003 she was as exchange visitor student at University of Central Florida where she worked in the synthesis, characterization, and optical properties of new two-photon absorbing fluorene derivatives. Currently she is doing postdoctoral research at University of Central Florida, developing new organic materials and fluorescence probes for cell imaging. Her research interests are in the area of molecular engineering of multifunctional absorbing materials, two-photon fluorescence probes for fluorescence imaging, and site-specific biological labeling. |

Ciceron Yanez obtained B.S. in Chemistry at Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela. He is currently working in the microwave-assisted synthesis, characterization and application of sulfonium salts to be used as photoacid generators (PAG) with nonlinear optical properties. These PAGs have been used in 3-D optical data storage systems and to induce two-photon ring opening polymerization. He is also working with one and two-photon flourescence microscopy for cell imaging. |

Carolina Andrade obtained her B.S. in Chemistry at Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela in 2004 and joined Dr. Belfield's group in 2006. She has worked in the synthesis and characterization of monomers containing norbornene and fluorene derivatives. These monomers will be used to prepare block copolymers with different properties. Recently, she started working in the synthesis and characterizationof novel two-photon absorbing materials for cell imaging and 3D optical data storage purposes.
